KODI 17 IN WINDOWS STORE

Kodi Media centre now joins other applications in the Microsoft Windows Store. This means Kodi takes a brand new step to the next world of being legit media, much like Windows Media Player, Real Player & VLC player.

Being able to install Kodi from Windows’ application store means there is less of a challenge for end users. There will soon be a time when you can tell others that you were using Kodi, and the answer won't be “What on earth is that”, but rather “Oh really, I also found that in the Store the other day!”

There are some basic system requirements that Kodi needs to be in place first. For Windows 10 users, Kodi will not install from the Windows Store unless you have the Anniversary Update in place. Standard Windows 8 Store or Windows 10 Standard users are are not able to install it. Your processor must be in the X86 family, and it needs DirectX 9 or higher.

Your day to day usage of Kodi should be broadly the same, except that Kodi’s install directory is different (as it will have been installed via Windows Store, rather than an EXE download). Similarly, the actualy path to the Userdata directory won't be in “AppData” but within Windows Store’s folders.

 

Also, Kodi from the Windows Store will be Kodi 17 beta 2 only and only the X86 version.

 

The Kodi team’s relations with application stores is getting a lot stronger these days, both with Android (Google’s Play Store) and now Windows stores.
