However, upon arrival, he learns that Lucy has gone missing on an expedition. Paddington, the Browns, and Mrs. Bird set off on a chaotic adventure through the Peruvian jungle to find her.

Why is Sally Hawkins not in Paddington 3?

Sally Hawkins, who played Mrs. Brown in the first two Paddington films, decided to step down from her role in Paddington in Peru. The decision was her own and wasn’t influenced by scheduling conflicts or external issues.

In her statement, Hawkins expressed that it felt like the right time to pass the reins to another actress. She spoke highly of Emily Mortimer, who will now take on the role. The actress said that Mortimer is “extraordinarily special” and will bring her own essence to the character while honoring Mary Brown’s legacy.

Despite stepping down, Hawkins reflected fondly on her time in the Paddington family, calling it one of the most creative and joyful experiences of her career. She also shared that she will always cherish her connection to Paddington's world.

Behind the Scenes

Award-winning director Dougal Wilson has taken over from Paul King, the director of Paddington 1 & 2, for the highly anticipated third installment, Paddington in Peru. King, who co-wrote the story with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, expressed his excitement for Wilson’s new role, stating he is “delighted that Dougal will be there to hold [Paddington's] paw” for his third big-screen adventure. King praised Wilson’s work as “astounding” and said he knows that his successor will take good care of the beloved bear.

Dougal Wilson, best known for directing the iconic John Lewis Christmas adverts and music videos for artists like Coldplay, has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm. As a fan of the first two films, Wilson described continuing Paddington's story as a “massive responsibility” but one he’s determined to handle with care. He is focused on making a film that honors the love so many people have for this special bear.

The movie, inspired by Michael Bond's beloved children's books, is produced by David Heyman and Rosie Alison, with King serving as executive producer. It will be distributed by StudioCanal in the UK and France, and Sony Pictures in the US and other major regions.
