Plot
The Thing About Tommy is based on the true story of Thomas Randolph, infamously known as the “Black Widower.†Randolph, who has been married six times, saw four of his wives meet tragic ends. The series draws inspiration from Dateline’s coverage of his case, particularly the multi-part series The Widower.
Following in the footsteps of The Thing About Pam, which explored Pam Hupp’s connection to the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria, The Thing About Tommy continues the tradition of transforming high-profile true crime cases into compelling dramas.

Behind the Scenes
Peacock is developing The Thing About Tommy, a true crime series from writer Bruce Marshall Romans, known for his work on Shantaram, The Punisher, and Hell On Wheels. The project is produced by NBC News Studios and Blumhouse, the same companies behind NBC’s 2022 limited series The Thing About Pam. Romans will also executive produce alongside Jason Blum, Chris Dickie, Jeremy Gold, and Liz Cole for NBC News Studios. Universal Content Productions, a division of Universal Studio Group, is set to produce the series.
