Release date & Where to Watch

Black Mirror season seven is confirmed to debut on Netflix in 2025.

While an exact release date hasn't been provided, speculation suggests a potential autumn premiere. Production for the new season is already underway, as indicated by a teaser from Netflix below.

The teaser showcases the names of the stars in the upcoming installment, presented in a format reminiscent of an old video game or computer system booting up, with cast names appearing like code. It's uncertain whether the names are organized to indicate character pairings, though this seems unlikely as not all members of the “USS Callister” cast appear together.

In the meantime, additional text has surfaced that invites speculation. Phrases include: “A rose for a rose,” “My lawyers will fuck you into a barb wire coffin,” “Hardly in the spirit of the game,” “I'll be yours forever more,” “I love her; she's such a bitch,” “I don't care if you understand,” “Oh dear—is the entire internet wrong?” and “Too soon?”

Plot

Details on the new season are currently limited, but it's confirmed that one episode will serve as a sequel to the beloved season four episode “U.S.S. Callister.” This episode originally focused on a game developer, Robert Daly, who created digital clones of his co-workers to torment inside a virtual reality game. After the crew managed to overpower him, they remained trapped on the spaceship.

The sequel will follow the surviving crew members following Daly's demise, introducing new challenges and possibilities as they navigate life after the events of the first episode. This marks Black Mirror's first foray into producing a direct sequel.

While specific plots for other episodes remain undisclosed, the anthology format will persist, ensuring each episode tells a standalone story. Netflix has maintained a low profile regarding further details, but the announcement of this sequel has generated considerable excitement.

For context, the original 2017 episode depicted Daly, played by Jesse Plemons, as a socially awkward programmer whose frustrations with his colleagues drove him to create sentient clones trapped in a Star Trek-like simulation. The episode culminated with the digital crew escaping his control, leaving them to face new adversities in the expansive game world.
